We Can Do It Together
by Paul McKaughan
EFMA EXISTS TO CULTIVATE THE GREAT COMMISSION ECOSPHERE SO THAT IT BEARS GOOD AND ABUNDANT FRUIT TO THE GLORY OF GOD.
We work in depth with our membership. We also desire to work broadly with all in the Great Commission Ecosphere.
WHAT CAN WE DO TOGETHER?
CREATE A UNIQUE OPERATING CLIMATE FOR THE GREAT COMMISSION ECOSYSTEM. The Evangelical Fellowship of Mission Agencies is a voluntary association of denominational and interdenominational agencies committed to the discipling of the Nations. It has approximately 100 members who send about 20,000 missionaries worldwide. EFMA was established to increase the effectiveness of agencies and their leaders in worldwide, cross-cultural mission by providing spiritual fellowship, the exchange of ideas and the building of skills and cooperative relationships, thereby creating mission synergy. For more than 50 years EFMA has symbolized high standards in missionary endeavor. We would like to include you.
INFORMATION EXCHANGE
EFMA provides a forum whereby leaders committed to world evangelization exchange information and work together. Our annual Fall Retreat is designed to enhance the ministry of each mission with pertinent, relevant topics, but even more importantly, to provide opportunity for leaders to learn from one another. Many leaders have testified that this strategic interchange with other leaders is the most valuable aspect of EFMA. EFMA serves its members in a variety of ways. We sponsor conferences, seminars and consultations. Additionally, we also serve as a clearinghouse for international security information and briefings that disseminate information on tax and accounting regulations, personnel issues, and development and fundraising trends.
EFMA provides services, but ultimately the underlying philosophy of EFMA is to create a forum where like-minded organizational leaders can serve each other. In a very real sense, an agency joins EFMA not only to gain, but also to give. When the leader learns and grows we all benefit and our quest is energized. We need your participation and you may benefit from ours.
STRATEGIC RESOURCE
EFMA is the world's largest mission association; however, we do not directly place missionaries. Instead our thrust is to aid agencies and boards to work more efficiently, tapping into the rich resource of all our members so that the gifts God gives can be used most effectively in the task of world evangelization. Each EFMA member agency has its own distinct identity and calling but each faces a new millennium with shifting resources and change. EFMA is not a program agency competing for recognition or funds with our member organizations. We seek to act as a bridging or linking mechanism so that the spirit of unity and collaboration will increase within the Great Commission Community (GCC). Our focus is the growth and co-evolution of the whole GCC as we together seek to follow the leading of God's Spirit.
HIGH STANDARDS
"We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative word of God," reads the beginning of EFMA's Statement of Faith. Our programs and services are solidly evangelical and biblically based. Within these boundaries, our fellowship is open to the whole Body of Christ. We are inclusive, not exclusive. We seek the broadest biblical collaboration without doctrinal compromise. EFMA stands before the Christian community as an accrediting agency for our member organizations, thus assuring accountability theologically, financially, and operationally. Members are required to have annual audits, which insure fiscal responsibility and openness.
If you are an evangelical organization committed to and involved in world evangelization, we are open to you. The majority of EFMA members send North
American missionaries overseas; however, the fellowship also has in its membership organizations that specifically support world evangelization through technical, financial, or professional means. From the local Church and philanthropic foundation to the church planting, Bible translation, and public health organization, we strive to work with you to enhance and advance the highest standards of cross-cultural ministry worldwide.
EFMA is here to serve, not to gain members. You are welcome to join our family; we want you to feel secure in our Fellowship. But if you can't join, we ask for your cooperation in return for our availability. Feel free to use us.
MINIMUM STAFF - MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS
EFMA is a distinct entity governed by a 20-member board. We offer many services; however, our staff is purposefully lean. We view ourselves as facilitators to help members develop and advance their programs and services. It is not the staff that is our greatest asset. Therefore, the staff will remain small to encourage the initiative of the membership.
