"I am looking forward to a gathering of missional leadership that goes beyond talking heads, providing opportunity for real dialogue. I'm coming with some selected key leaders."
Sam Metcalf, President,
Church Resource Ministries
Dear church/mission leader,
We live in a conference rich country. You probably receive information about many more conferences every year than would be possible for you to attend. You have to make hard choices to be a good steward of your time and resources. That's why we convened a group of your mission peers to form a planning team to help us think through how to approach the North American Mission Leaders Conference.
We discovered there is a wide spread interest in exploring the impact of globalization, especially as it impacts how we relate to the majority world. We also learned there is a growing desire for something other than a traditional conference populated by subject matter experts whose contribution is limited to platform presentations. Strong interest has been expressed in more interactive learning opportunities that involve both peer-to-peer dialogue as well as participant-to-presenter Q & A.
We have factored this feedback in to our program, designing interactive plenary sessions that will combine short presentations with small group dialogue. The small group dialogue will allow us to surface key ideas, comments and questions that will jump start moderated panel discussions later in the program.
We have also replaced the traditional breakout session with issue-based conversation groups that will facilitate peer-to-peer learning. Each group will be limited to 8-12 people to maximize the opportunity for participation. Facilitators for each group will keep the dialogue moving and on topic but not make a formal presentation.
We know you want go away with something more than a conference packet so we're ending our time with two application sessions that will be led by Phil Butler, of visionSynergy. Our focus will be on two priority questions: What could we do together? and Where do we go from here?
Our purpose for this event is to challenge assumptions, broaden perspectives and stimulate actionable dialogue among Great Commission leaders regarding how we relate to the majority world. We hope to see you there.
Blessings,
